My Mother's Face
In the Sainsbury's security video at the till.
Actually it was my mother and my father’s face combined in the Sainsbury’s security video. Here is Sunday’s comic strip from The Observer New Review:
Back in the day I used to regularly listen to Vanessa Feltz’s radio programme and I remember her saying how you look the same throughout your life and then BAM, suddenly you look like an older you. She would have articulated better than that of course but I bookmarked the thought for later. The moment I realised my time had arrived, I had to stop mid-bleep at the self-checkout to process what I was seeing and the reality that I am not a youngster any more. I wasn’t sure whether it was too self-indulgent or even seemed anti ageing to make a comic about this but I though that my experience is probably quite universal and worth a mention. Even if it’s for some youngster to book-mark it in their mind for later and also to draw that little potato again, the one from last week.
I want to say thank you for your lovely emails this week and anyone that commented on the Substack App. I was really quite touched by the messages, someone said that my emails are like receiving a little gift in her inbox. Thank you! If you enjoy receiving these comics, please do share my work with a friend or two.
Here is Fluffy’s latest work over on his Instagram page, he felt inspired to have a conversation with a stranger in the street and this was his write up:
In reality I bumped into Anna whilst on a walk around the neighbourhood. I recognised her from a baby group we both went to and after jolting her memory as to who I was (I could see that she was thinking ‘who is this potato?!) she agreed to having Fluffy practicing his conversation skills with her.
What I’m learning from Fluffy meeting people is how wonderfully generous people are in sharing their stories with little Fluffy and he seems to be learning things from every person he speaks to. I’m enjoying seeing him grow in confidence as he connects more with others.
Before I sign off, Fluffy has five paintings left from his debut exhibition. They’re not currently on display and you can see them exclusively here. They’re one of a kind and will not be reproduced.

And until stocks last I’m including a free Chip and Bean game for all orders from my shop. If there are any collectors these might be good to snap up whilst he is still a youngster, before he is famous.
I will sign off here and wish you a lovely week. Thank you for reading,
Simone

I laughed out loud at the idea of balancing on a Pilates ball on wheels. I hope
1. that evil contraption does not exist, and
2. you didn’t actually do that.
Yeah, relatable! That's a whole new face you've got to get used to! It's neither good or bad, it just is,in the same way I had to get used to who I was once I surfaced from puberty.
