Earworms
And a possible answer to all the world's problems.
The subject for this week’s Observer cartoon is the infectious earworm that my daughter and I have been passing to each other for the past several weeks.
My neighbour mentioned that she had an earworm for more than a year, I think it was a few seconds of row, row, row your boat. Oof.
A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting with a rather remarkable local woman who shared with me why she has been directing community theatre for thirty years in the community. This was Fluffy’s write up shared on his Instagram
I didn’t include everything from our chat in Fluffy’s story but she mentioned that people often say how much they dislike January and February but she doesn’t feel that way or even notice how miserable it is because at that time of the year she’s always involved with the show. I think her outward vision of group may have given her some inner-sunshine! Something else that occurred to me is that having an inclusive creative vision really does invite others to join and bring and share their gifts.
What a world it would be if each of us, no matter what background or religious affiliation and perhaps especially those of us with a religious affiliation - truly from the heart, loved our neighbour. We can’t do anything about power crazed individuals, but we can try and make a start with ourselves, in our homes and in our communities.
That’s a bit of a preachy note to end on, but then, it is lent.
Thank you and if you like the work please do share with a friend!

You had me find the song on YouTube and now my life is better.
I love this post. I’ve been going into a lot of churches lately and have felt very welcomed despite being an atheist. And you are the second cartoonist to have mentioned the Zeigarnik Effect this week! Jason Chatfield was talking about it and it must be the reason my brain feels so jammed full at the moment.
